And got one picture of the seemingly abandoned NB miata. It’s been in the same spot for months. I’m going to see if he’ll sell it for peanuts.
What do I have to loose if he says no? Also I only have about $800 to spend. Paint is real nasty but that doesn’t concern me.

It has the comfort package, so LSD and what passes for leather. Also the bose stereo which sucks.

It seems to be what it seems to be, I guess.
But we don’t have a lot of good Miata’s in Raleigh, so why not? Especially if it runs, drives, and all the important bits are working properly.

If it’s mechanically sound a couple grand would be a nice price.

Yeah the Raleigh Miata market is a mixed bag. You have trashed ones and unobtainable nice ones. I’m hoping I can beat this thing to Craigslist and get it cheap. I kinda hope there’s a problem so the price goes down and I have something to work on. All my cars have been too reliable recently.

Yeah. I’ll see what I can do about the funds. At 2-3k this thing sounds sweet if it’s solid. Not many NBs look this bad so it has that going for it. Don’t want to let it get away.

I got mine for 5500 last year. 99 with 32k miles and all records. Needed 1k in maintenance (fluids, regular maintnance, nothing broken) and new tires. I saw a lot but I don’t think I got lucky, just took my time shopping.

I’ve lived in Raleigh my entire life, and I have realized that there isn’t really a, “car culture,” here. It’s either the doctors and lawyers are driving an E350, or the hip ones are driving a Model S. The moms are driving Suburbans and Odysseys. The high school students are driving the best lease deal, or lifted Jeeps/Trucks (at least at Middle Creek where I go...other than the bagged Miata and the bone stock E30 325is). It’s sad to me, and I wish that people would buy more enthusiast cars, so I can pick them up for cheap in 10 years or so.

That sounds nice. This one’s has 100k ish so does 2.5k sound about right in solid condition? I could always wait longer but I’ve been waiting years now. I also have a good daily so this is a bit of a project that will be a daily when it can be.

Yeah, that sounds reasonable. I’m in Oregon, so ymmv as far as local pricing obviously. The big thing I was warned about was the thrust bearing failure in the early NB. Can be tested easy though.

I went to Enloe (I could have already introduced myself, I’ve lost track of Raleigh Opponats), I’m graduating on Sunday. Car culture exists in Raleigh, it’s just not our kind of car culture. Plenty of donks and rice here on the south east side and scattered muscle and trucks in all surrounding areas. At least we have Charlotte close enough, witch despite being a NASCAR city has a diverse car scene.
All you really need is some friends for car work. I have two friends that live down by you (I live in northern Wake Forest) who i do all my car work with. We do sweedish cars and toyota trucks with some stock and unmolested old Hondas thrown in.

Yeah. My brother is driving it now. He hates it so my dad is buying him a car for straight Bs. I got straight As. Where’s my car? Oh right, I have to keep driving my $400 15 year old wagon (it’s not a bad car, just not what I would choose if I had actual money). Maybe I can talk my brother into this and then steal it from him...

Wow! That is kinda stupid. I’d speak to your dad about how you deserve the new car instead of your bro, considering that you made good grades, and got into a good state college.

I’m getting a new computer for college so I’m not really going to contest this. I’m more mad that I didn’t have the option when I was a sophomore. I also had to have a back seat because I needed to drive him and my sister to school. He gets a free car and he can have a two seater. Oh well. At least I have oppo to complain to. The worst part is he’s trying to get a Civic hybrid.

Ew. Ew. Ew.
Is your brother ok in the head? Why a Civic Hybrid? Why?

He likes the “noise” they make. He also wants a Lancer because it was his favorite car in GT5. He never saw the EVO part and thinks Lancers are crazy fast cheap cars.

There is this tiny car dealership in Fuquay, that I think you will love. It’s right behind the O’Reillys and CVS and directly next to the train tracks. They have a diverse selection of older Japanese and German vehicles there for sale or for show, Including three (!) Subaru Brats.
Donk culture scares me. I’m scared a 28 inch wheel is *this* close to falling off a Buick Roadmaster at ANY moment, and careening into the side of one my car. And every Friday and Saturday night, I can’t get any sleep due to the rice Honda bros driving as their fart cans disrupt the pleasant night. Because West Lake road, which is the road Middle Creek is on, is two lanes on both sides, making it popular for late night drag street racing.
M-B-W were talking last week about having a central NC Oppo meet, like in Mebane or something, so we can all get together for activities.
Middle Creek is an embarrassing school, yet wonderful in it’s own way. In our yearbook, for example, our principal is awkwardly holding a parrot. Admittedly, he is just an awkward guy. In the contrary, our football team is killer and nearly every kind of drug is available, if that’s your thing...which it shouldn’t be.

I think the dealership is A1 classics or something. They post to Craigslist in front of a blue self service car wash. I’d be down for central NC oppo meet. I know there are more of us. Maybe Torchinsky will show up, he lives in Chappel Hill.

That sounds right. The dealer is a former car wash, which is funny. The two guys who run it are pretty cool, and have good stories to tell about the cars. Yeah, there HAS to be more than the four of us, including Torch. I was thinking Mebane, because it's directly between Raleigh and Greensboro. I also don’t have authorship, so I’m not fully 100% Oppo. But a boy can dream.
